Blackwattle Books

Australian stories, voices & ideas.

Blackwattle Books is an independent publisher providing support and space for Australia’s best storytellers and thinkers.

About us

Each of our colours means something and each of our books will indicate with their colour where they fit. Blue for Australian skies and referring to ideas or philosophies about who we are. Pink/red for land and the way we imagine Australia, indicating what we build here and our history. Green for flora and what grows here; yellow for sandstone and bedrock, for identity and what makes us what we are. White for waves and beaches, signifying how we feel about where we live.

The Great Story Club

Brought to you by Blackwattle Books and hosted by The Great Club in Marrickville. It is for readers and writers and those who like being read to.

Once a month two writers are interviewed and asked to read their work. Questions from the audience are welcome at the end of each reading. If the writers are published, their books will be available for sale.

There is also an open mic for new writers to read their work on the night. This is an opportunity to test new work and receive feedback from the panel and the audience.

The next TGSC Wednesday 8 November 2023.

Due to popular demand the next TGSC will focus on open mike, with a panel of experienced writers and readers to lead the discussion.

Please register online if you wish to read. Preference will be given to those registering online, although there will be some more limited places held open for those who register on the night.
TGSC Open Mike
Becoming a member of TGSC means receiving emails letting you know what is coming up with TGSC and Blackwattle Books. It also means better price on advanced tickets to events.
